“There is that in us which has moved us from the very beginning. It is that which can liberate us.” ~ Mary Starks Whitehouse (one of the founders of the Authentic Movement design)
Authentic Movement is a delightful, spacious and mindful inquiry into what moves us from within. In an environment of sacred space participants experience the originality of their own movement as well as learning how to witness with clarity the movement of another.
Authentic Movement was designed by dancers who recognized the therapeutic power of movement. Through their study and research people like Marian Chace and Mary Starks Whitehouse developed simple structures to allow the restorative benefits of movement to be broadly available as a healing art.
In her search for ways to recover the vitality and resilience of the nervous system after overwhelming experience Dr. Stephanie Mines discovered and then fell in love with Authentic Movement, becoming a practitioner for both personal and professional purposes.
In this one day experience participants explore this mindfulness practice which they can then carry on for themselves and share with others. Authentic Movement is beneficial for self-insight, relieving anxiety, healing from loss, illness and grief, and for the joy of movement.
Everyone will learn the basics of the practice and experience it as well as having time to write, draw and share according to their own direction. Authentic Movement builds community and trust. It is not dance. Because of her research into human development Dr. Mines adds information about how the process of unfolding that begins embryonically can be identified in one’s movement, adding to our personal and collective understandings of evolution. This adds a rich dimension to our amazing, revelatory experiences together.
